Summit Participants Announced

I today announce the names of the 1000 participants who have been selected to take part in the forum next month.

I congratulate all those who have been selected to help shape the nation’s future at the Australia 2020 Summit.

The Summit - to be held at Parliament House, Canberra on the 19 and 20 April – will bring together a diverse and talented range of people who are incredibly positive about gaining the opportunity to put forward their ideas.

The Australia 2020 Summit will harness the best ideas across the nation, in a forum for free and open public discussion in which there are no wrong answers.

The 10 member independent Steering Committee had a very tough job selecting the participants from nearly 8,000 nominations, because of the sheer quality of these nominations.

The Committee is proud of this list - its depth and range is impressive - but it should be noted that we could have picked another 1000 from the nominations which would have been equally impressive.

There is a tinge of sadness in having to say 'no' to so many.

We would like to encourage every Australian, whether selected as a participant or not, to contribute their ideas and ambitions to the 2020 Summit by making a submission to one of the 10 critical discussion areas which will form the basis of Summit discussions.

In addition to making a submission there are a number of associated events where people can put forward their ideas and participate in discussions.

All of the key issues and ideas from the submissions and associated events will form part of the discussions at the 2020 Summit in Canberra on April 19 and 20.

Invitations to participants, who either nominated themselves or were nominated by others, have been sent out and will be arriving in mail boxes over the next couple of days.

Although the independent Steering Committee at this stage cannot guarantee that all invitees are aware of their official nomination by a third party, we hope that all of the invitees will be available to attend and to participate in the Summit.
